XRP is wrapping up its strongest month of the year, yet the demand underneath the price is quietly draining away. Trading near $1.10, the token heads into August with a warning sign flashing: the funds and buyers that drive it have started to step back. Here is why the month ahead could go nowhere.

A strong July, at least on the surface#

On paper, July looked healthy. XRP rose around 7%, and history was on its side. The token has closed July in the green every single year since 2020, making it XRP's most reliable month by a wide margin.

The problem is that the strength was thin. Look under the hood, and the buying that usually powers a rally simply was not there.

The ETF desks went silent#

The clearest warning comes from exchange-traded funds, the regulated products that let big investors buy XRP.

On 10 of July's 17 trading days, these funds recorded no net flows at all. Nothing. Across the whole month, they pulled in only about $12 million, a rounding error against the roughly $1 billion these products already hold. In plain terms, the institutions everyone expected to keep buying XRP mostly sat on their hands.

Demand is thinning elsewhere too#

It is not just the funds. Two other signals point the same way.

First, trading activity is drying up. The daily value of XRP changing hands fell from about $14 million at the start of July to under $9 million by late in the month, a drop of roughly 37%.

Second, on-chain data shows buyers pulling back. A measure of how much XRP is leaving exchanges, usually a sign of investors moving coins into storage to hold them, shrank by about two-thirds during July. When fewer coins are being taken off exchanges, it suggests fewer people are accumulating.

Put together, the funds, the traders, and the long-term holders all eased off at the same time.

The levels that matter#

Right now, XRP is boxed in. It keeps finding support near $1.07 to $1.10, but it cannot break through resistance overhead.

The momentum picture is soft. The RSI, a gauge of buying pressure, sits around 43, which leans bearish without being extreme. And XRP trades well below its 200-day average near $1.45, confirming the bigger trend is still down.

For the mood to genuinely flip bullish, buyers would need to push XRP above roughly $1.22 and hold it there for a few days. Until that happens, the path of least resistance is sideways.

What could break the calm#

August is historically XRP's most directionless month, so a quiet stretch would fit the pattern. But calendars can be interrupted. A vote on the CLARITY Act, a major US crypto law working through the Senate, could inject fresh energy if it passes. So could a shift in interest-rate expectations from the Federal Reserve.

Longer term, some analysts remain optimistic, with Standard Chartered holding a base case near $2.80 for XRP. That is a story for later in the cycle, not necessarily for August.

The bottom line#

XRP closed a strong month with weak internals. With ETF demand flat, turnover falling, and holders stepping back, the base case for August is a quiet, range-bound month unless a real catalyst arrives to shake it loose.
